Tradish's The Ancestor Cafe: Reviews & Ratings
Fort Langley is a ways out, haven't been there in ages, so it was a surprise and a delight to get to have genuine Bannock during Louis Riel Day! It was fluffy, delicious and a good portion. The jams and maple butter went with them really well. I was impressed how the staff went out of their way to let me know afterwards how a jam they thought was sold out that my mom wanted to try was still available and if I'd still like some, that was super kind. :) I think the only criticism I could have was how they were understaffed for the volume of people there, it was an endless onslaught of a long line for them. It meant a long wait! Despite that every dish they put out looked amazing. It makes me wish there was a restaurant more easily accessible to try out more dishes. It's a simple rustic atmosphere, they were on top of clearing out tables in between the constant rush. It was free seating and we found a table right away, it was only the ordering that took some time due to the line.
We were here Jan 1st while visiting the fort, we ordered Elk Bannock Taco for 30 bucks and 2 coffees and some cookies, the dish was surprisingly good, never ate something like it, definitely I will try it again.
Stopped by to pick up some of their fabulous plant medicine jams. We ordered a bison cabbage roll soup and bannock to go, 3 jams, 1 bannock and butter and 1 bannock with blueberry lavender jam. Everything was delicious !!
Sarah and her team were absolutely fantastic in catering a community event for us at the last minute. The selection for 50 attendees was excellent, the food was fresh and well presented and the bannock was outstanding. Sarah is was very accommodating for our event needs and budget. Highly recommended!
Super exciting to see an Indigenous café open up in Fort Langley! The only downside is that you need to pay the park fee to get in. The menu is small, but that’s understandable given it’s located within a museum. I appreciated the vibrant Indigenous art and music that helped create a welcoming and culturally rich atmosphere. My favourite item was the lavender baked bannock (pretty much a scone. It had a strong lavender flavour with berry jam baked in. At $13, it felt a bit pricey, but it was large in size. The bannock with lavender jam was so fresh and delicious. The jam wasn’t too sweet and was slightly tart, which I enjoyed. I would’ve loved to buy a jar, but at $20 each, I decided to pass. I also enjoyed a cup of medicinal tea. They provide a pamphlet explaining the benefits of each herb, which added an educational touch to the experience.
Luckily it was free entry into the fort, I've been wanting to try Bannock for some time! It was delicious! The jam was unreal! Great healing combinations, the lemonade was great! Pear Camomile Jam, really good! The Blackberry Sage Lemonade was really refreshing!
We had the pleasure of working with Tradish’s The Ancestor Cafe for a recent catering event, and we couldn't be more impressed. The bannock and house-made jams were absolutely outstanding – rich in flavour, beautifully presented, and truly the star of the show. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about them! Working with Chef Sarah was an absolute delight. She brought not only her culinary expertise but also warmth, professionalism, and deep cultural care to the experience. Her passion for the food and its roots was evident in every bite. We’re incredibly grateful for the partnership and look forward to many more opportunities to work with The Ancestor Cafe again in the future. Highly recommended!
The bannock was soooo good! Fresh and hot, and I loved the jam as well. They were busy with something else, so it took a little time, but the server came out and apologized to me and gave me a free lemonade to make up for the wait. So nice to sit out and enjoy a delicious treat.
